Ferry disabled off Kera island
The KM 'Sabuk Nusantara 55' suffered steering damage on Oct 2, 2020, at 8.30 a.m. in East Nusa Tenggara, in pos. 09-51-12 S 123-26-10 E, about 16 miles north of Kera Island. The 50 passengers were successfully evacuated and taken to shore by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation. The evacuation was carried out by the patrol boat 'KNP 340' of the Kupang Port Authority and Port Authority Office (KSOP). The tug 'Servewell' was also immediately moved to the scene, carrying supplies for all passengers, before she started towing the 'Belt Nusantara 55' to Tenau Kupang Port at 12.55 p.m. with a speed of 3.5 knots. The ship docked at the port of Tenau at 5.30 p.m. The ferry had been enroute from the port of Menanga, Solor, East Flores, to Tenau Kupang Port.
