Korean tall ship ran aground
The "Koreana" ran aground in the morning of June 14, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Jeolla near Liushi City on the Pratas reed about 500 meters off the coast. The tall ship which had 34 passengers and a crew of four on board, suffered breaches and was reported to be in danger of sinking. The Korean Coast Guard was in charge of the SAR operation. The ship was listing 35 degrees to port. The marine police, a patrol boat and nearby fishing boats rescued all on board. The Coastguard rescued 20 people, the fishing boats 18 people. Among them were 34 foreign English teachers, 17 Americans, five Canadians, five South Africans, three Britons and three Uzbeks and Kazakhs. The ship had sailed from Liushi Su Hudong on June 13 at 9 a.m. and was returning to port at the time of the accident. There wer etwo tons fuel on board so an anti pollution team was dispatched to the scene. It was hoped to refloat the ship with the high tide.
