MV Leila released from Somali pirates after a ransom of $250,000 was paid

The Leila is expected in the Port of Berbera in a few days' time two months later than expected. The ship 'which was hijacked by pirates somewhere between Oman and the Gulf of Aden the two months ago was released after the hijackers were paid over $250,000 as ransom. The release of The MV Leila came after local merchants contributed towards the ransom owing to the fact that the cargo on the ship said to be worth millions of dollars belonged to Somaliland merchants both big and small. Following the hijacking of the MV Leila, acrimony is reported to have developed between the pirates and Elders of Hobiyo , after the elders demanded that that the ship be released without any ransom as it belonged to Somalilanders.
