Tanker in fact lost rudder

Mon Feb 24 17:27:55 CET 2020 Timsen

On Feb 24 the three tugs 'Alb Forward' (IMO: 9367516 ), 'Multratug 29' (IMO: 9795816 ), and 'Shengli 242' (IMO: 1058432) were jointly pulling the disabled 'Linda Kosan' through the English Channel towards Ternuezen with an ETA as of Feb 25, 8 a.m. The ship had suffered a rudder loss in severe weather in the Biscay according to the Lauritzen Kosan A/S. As the propeller still worked and by using the bow thrusters it was possible to keep the tanker stable until help arrived. After the captain had stated that he had lost control of the ship, cameras were sent down and found that the helm was gone. The reason may only be found out once the ship has been unloaded and is drydocked. On Feb 27, the tugs 'Multratug 17' and 'Multratug 19' had taken over the ship and were pulling it on the final leg. to Terneuzen. On Feb 27 at 3.20 p.m. the tanker was safely berthed at the Braakman Dock. After unloading of the cargo, the ship was towed to the Shipyard Reimerswaal in Flushing-East and berthed on Feb 2 at 5.40 a.m. for repairs. After repairs it completed its trials as of April 30 and headed to Bilbao, ETA May 2.
