Wind gusts wreaked havoc in Novorossiysk

Fri Jul 27 12:25:25 CEST 2018 Timsen

Four ships broke from their moorings or dragged anchor in Novorossiysk between 9.15 p.m. and 9.45 p.m. on July 25, 2018, after the wind suddenly changed its direction from north to southeast and increased its speed up to 24-25 meters/sec. The cargo m/v "Serenada" broke her stern moorings and allided with berth no.39. The sheerleg "Barbaros 3" broke the fore and aft moorings and though dropping both anchors, the crane drifted against the floating dock No. 3 of the Novorossiysk Ship Repair Yard. The "Lion" broke her stern moorings and allided with berth no.5, and the cargo m/v "Storm" dragged her anchor, drifted outside the anchorage limits and hit the bottom by stern. The ship managed to refloat by own means and returned to its anchorage. All damages suffered by ships and port installations were reported as non-serious.
