Italy makes itself independent from Russian gas supply

Mon Mar 20 11:20:48 CET 2023 Timsen

The 'Golar Tundra', purchased by the Snam gas company, arrived in thecity of Piombino in the night of March 20, 2023, and will come into full operation between the end of April and the start of May and will guarantee some five billion cubic meters of gas per year, equivalent to about 1/6 of the amount of natural gas Russia currently supplies to Italy. The arrival of the ship in Piombino and of another similar ship in Ravenna was one of the projects of the previous Mario Draghi government and will free Italy from a significant part of the dependence on methane imports from transnational onshore gas pipelines from Russia and also from Azerbaijan. Despite the fact that the project has been criticized by a part of the population of Piombino and environmentalists, its implementation will take place and allow to reach levels of self-sufficiency that make it possible for families to think about cheaper bills, to have a sustainable energy supply. From mid-May, Italian regasification capacity will increase practically to what it needs to say goodbye to Russia. The "Golar Tundra" has a storage capacity of about 170,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas and a continuous regasification capacity of 5,000 million cubic meters per year. Italy had imported 90% of the gas it consumed, and 40% came from Russian territory. At present, Russia is no longer its main gas supplier and has been replaced by Algeria, a country with which it is linked by a gas pipeline that starts in North Africa, crosses the Mediterranean and ends in Sicily.

LNG Golar Tundra loads first cargo at new Texas Corpus Christi LNG export plant

Sun Nov 18 23:38:55 CET 2018 arnekiel

U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) company Cheniere Energy Inc officially opened its $15 billion Corpus Christi LNG export facility in Texas. The company, however, would not say when the first cargo will actually leave the facility, which produced its first LNG on Wednesday. There is an LNG vessel, the LNG Golar Tundra, docked at the plant that analysts say will take the project’s first cargo soon. At a celebration marking the opening of the facility, Cheniere’s President and CEO Jack Fusco was joined by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and other state and local officials. Corpus Christi is the third big LNG export terminal to enter service in the lower 48 U.S. states.

Golar LNG enters into purchase agreement to sell the Golar Tundra

Thu Feb 11 12:13:34 CET 2016 arnekiel

Golar LNG Limited has entered into a purchase agreement to sell the Golar Tundra, a floating storage and regasification unit, to Golar LNG Partners LP for a sale price of $330.0 million, the company said in its press release. In connection with the closing, the Partnership will receive a daily fee plus operating expenses, aggregating to approximately $2.6 million per month, for Golar's right to use the FSRU from the date of the closing until the date that the Golar Tundra commences operations under its time charter with West Africa Gas Limited. In return, the Partnership will remit to Golar any hire income received with respect to the Golar Tundra during this period. The sale is expected to close in March 2016 and the vessel is expected to commence operations under its time charter with West Africa Gas Limited at the end of the second quarter of 2016. http://en.portnews.ru/news/214457/
