Three longliners grounded in cyclone
Three longliners got in difficulty in the waters of Bain-des-Dames and Pointe-aux-Sables on 22, 2022, after the passage of cyclone Emnati. On Feb 23 at 2 a.m., the Taianese 'Wen Hang Dar 168' (MMSI:416006804) wifh 25 crew members on board grounded on the reefs 10 kilometers from Port Louis. The ship has 90 tonnes of fuel in its tanks. No leaks have been detected so far. A team of divers was carrying out checks and taking stock of the scene. The other two vessels were stuck on sand banks near Bain-des-Dames the same day, one of them being the Taiwanese 'Maan Yu Feng No. 1'. The National Coast Guard was deployed to rescue the crew members who jumped into the water. Also the Helicopter Squadron was also called out. The castaways were taken to the police headquarters. The tug 'Vasileos' was dispatched to Mauritius on Feb 23. The three longliners had been asked to leave the harbour and drop anchor outside the port as the cyclone approached, but hit by the swell, the fishing vessels ended up on the sandbanks.
