Cargo ship overloaded, master arrested

The 49 year old master of the 'Malaga' was arrested after a PSC inspector spotted the loading line exceeded by nine centimeters, after loading a cargo of 3.850 tons of marble. The ship was detained following an inspection carried out under the PARIS MOU by a Thessaloniki Port Authority inspector, as serious defiencies were found in regard of Annex X of EC 2009/16. The Central Port Authority of Kavala, which carried out the preliminary investigation, initiated the procedure for imposing the administrative sanctions. The 'Malaga' had arrived at Kavala on Feb 19 and on Feb 25 she was still in port.

Engine failure in Istanbul Strait

The 'Malaga', en route from Iskenderun to Kherson in ballast condition, suffered an engine failure at the Anadolu Kavagi point during the transit of the Istanbul Strait in position 41 13 13 N, 029 07 46 E, on Dec 12, 2019, at 10 p.m. The Coastal Safety tug 'Kurtarma-8' provided assistance for the vessel and strait traffic safety. The vessel was moored at Büyükdere anchorage at 11.45 p.m. for repairs. A fina was imposed due to a breach of strait safe passage regulation.
