Tanker lost wheelhouse and car in allision

Wed Jun 05 21:42:12 CEST 2019 Timsen

On June 3, 2019, at 7 a.m. the "Maria", 1710 ts (EU-No.: 02330767), allided with the the old, but still intact barrage on the Dortmund-Ems Canal in Fuestrup. The wheelhouse was torn off and fell into the water as well as a car which was stored on the aft. One crew member was slightly injured. The damage was in the six digits. The tanker was enroute towards Münster at the time of the accident and had passed a road bridge immediately before the allision without problems. The fire brigades Münster and Greven were deployed to the site, who in turn called special forces from Rheine and the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) as well as a mobile crane from Münster for the recovery. The 40 forces on site, among them several divers and salvage experts, managed to locate the sunken Ford Focus Turnier and return it to the surface with the crane. During the salvage works the Dortmund-Ems-Canal was barred for shipping. The police, canal and experts of the canal authority were on site too. The canal was still closed in the afternoon as not all debris had yet been localized and recovered from the bottom of the waterway. The "Maria" was able to continue the voyage to the lock in Münster. The barrage still had to be investigated. German report with photos: https://www.wn.de/Muensterland/3809483-Grosseinsatz-in-Greven-Auto-und-Teile-eines-Schiffs-Fuehrerstandes-in-Kanal-gestuerzt
