Yacht crew rescued by AMVER ship
The 'AVA Vennila', en route from Tuticorin to the Maldives with nine crew members on board, suffered a technical snag about 170 nautical miles from Tuticorin and 230 nautical miles from Maldives and got disabled amid rough seas. The crew requested assistance through the Distressed Alert Transmitter (DAT) on Oct 7, 2021. The Indian Coast guard?s (ICG) Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Chennai received the distress message which reported flooding in the vessel. The MRCC launched the National Search and Rescue Services and activated International Safety Net (ISN) for coordinating an SAR operation. Two merchant vessels, the 'SKS Mosel' and 'MCP Salzburg', diverted to the datum. The 'MCP Salzburg' rescued all the nine crew members and proceeded to its next port of call, Male, where the castaways were disembarked on Oct 15.
