MMEA caught pirates during siphoning of cargo

The "MGT 1" was attacked by a group of 13 armed pirates on two small boats on Sep 6, 2017, at 9 p.m. in the South China Sea in vicinity 5 09N 104 17E, about 80 miles east of Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. The tanker was en route from Rayong Thailand in the Gulf of Siam to Phuket Island i the Andaman Sea. The pirates took tanker under control and forced the crew to siphon 900 tons of the 2000 tons diesel on board into the pirates’ mother ship. During the hijack the crew managed to activate SSAS, alerting Malaysian Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). The tanker was boarded by MMEA forces at around 4 a.m. on Sep 7,the MMEA also managed to seize 10 pirates, searching for remaining three. It was not clear whether they feld from the tanker, or if they still were hidden somewhere inside.
