Frigate shadowed Russian convoy
On May 31, 2026, the 'Sachsen-Anhalt - F 224', while transiting from Wilhelmshaven into the Baltic Sea, — jointly with Danish naval units — shadowed a Russian convoy, which consisted of four vessels arriving from the Mediterranean. Included in the group was the frigate 'Stoikiy', which as recently as February had been in the Strait of Hormuz, conducting exercises with the Iranian Navy. Also part of the Russian formation was the 'Sparta' (IMO: 9268710), a vessel purchased from Germany ten years ago—which has recently been utilised for arms shipments and was enroute from St. Petersburg, Russia, to Baltiysk, where it arrived on June 2.
