Laid up ship drifted aground

The 'Nazım İmamoğlu', which was laid up at the Kartal repair pier since Feb 5, 2017, broke lose from its mooring in adverse weather and ran aground on Feb 9, 2021, at 9 a.m. Serious structural damages were noted on the side shell plating, rudder and hull of the vessel due to the incident. An incident investigation file was placed by the Harbour Master, and state surveyors were appointed in order to investigate the cause of the incident and the extent of the damage. On Jan 17, 2017, a fire had broken out in the cabin area of the ship. Maltepe and Kartal firefighters intervened and extinguished it before it could spread by extending a hose from the land. NAZIM IMAMOGLU and HALIM SAVAS allide at Kartal anchorage

General cargo vessels NAZIM IMAMOGLU and HALIM SAVAS at 1845 LT Mar 23 allided on Kartal anchorage, southeast of Istanbul, Marmara sea. Both vessels reported slight damages. At 1000 UTC Mar 24 both vessels were still anchored on Kartal anchorage.
