Drowning accident off Skagen

A 47-year-old man died when he fell from the "Nord Gardenia" about five kilometers east of Skagen on Sep 29, 2016, at 2 a.m. The fitter was taken out from Skagen to the ship aboard a pilot boat to carry out a repair. While boarding the tanker, the man fell into the water. He was recovered after 10 minutes and subsequently flown by a rescue helicopter to the Aalborg University Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The ship, enroute from St. Petersburg to Bremen, dropped anchor on Skagen Anchorage. The Maritime Accident Investigation Board started investigating the accident further.

Product tanker rescued 127 distressed migrants

Coming from Az Zawiyah enroute to Thessaloniki, the "Nord Gardenia has been involved in a rescue operation off the Libyan coast, where the ship rescued 127 people, 112 men, 14 women and a child, up from a migrant boat in distress on May 24, 2016. They were all aboard an inflatable boat that came in distress after it had left Libya. In the afternoon the "North Gardenia" received a request from the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre to go on standby and be ready to participate in the rescue operation. Approximately at 3:30 p.m. the "North Gardenia" was told to take the people from the dinghy aboard. After completing the rescue operation at approximately. 6 p.m. the "North Gardenia" sailed to Lampedusa, where the people were transferred onto a rescue vessel.
