Medevac off Bermuda

Mon Feb 23 10:45:12 CET 2015 Timsen

A sick sailor had to be dropped off the "Northern Dexterity" in Bermuda on Feb 21, 2015, after he was struck down with a suspected case of shingles. The 39-year-old Filipino was on board the ship while it was travelling to South Carolina coming n Bremerhaven. It contacted the Bermuda Maritime Operations in the afternoon of Feb 20 to arrange the medical evacuation. The ship arrived off the East End of the Island early in the morning of Feb 21 and met the pilot boat "St David" at Five Fathom Hole. The sailor was transferred on board the pilot boat at 7.45 a.m., where he was assessed by a local doctor and brought to Ordnance Island in St George’s. He was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the "Northern Dexterity" and her crew continued on to Charleston, on the east coast of the US, to deliver their cargo of containers. The crew member was released from hospital the same afternoon and was expected to fly home soon.

USCG Airlifts Injured Seaman off Charleston

Fri Aug 15 10:29:55 CEST 2014 arnekiel

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Facility Charleston hoisted an injured man off a container ship 78 miles east of Charleston on Thursday, August 14. A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the medevac after watchstanders in the Sector Charleston command center were notified the crewman’s eye was injured while he was performing his duties aboard the ship Northern Dexterity. A Charleston helicopter crew flew to the ship, hoisted the man and transported him to the Medical University of South Carolina for further treatment. The Coast Guard said he was in stable condition at the time of the transfer.
