Collision off Singapore

Thu Jan 30 09:38:50 CET 2014 Timsen

In the morning of Jan 30, 2014, the "NYK Themis" collided with the barge "AZ Fuzhou" on the East Keppel Fairway about two miles south of Marina South. The "AZ Fuzhou" was under tow of the tug "AZ Carnation" when the collision occurred. The container ship which was enroute from Singapore, where it had sailed on Jan 29 ,to Laem Chabang, where it was expected on Jan 31, suffered a hole in a bunker tank in the collision, resulting in a slight discharge of oil. Four craft were dispatched by the port authority, and oil spill response companies were activated to support the clean up efforts. The two vessels were safely anchored and in stable condition. Before the accident, the port authorities had warned that the "AZ Fuzhou" was under tow in the shipping lane.
