Cruise ship to be converted into floatel
The Bridgeman Services Group has purchased the 'Ocean Diamond', which has been berthed in Gibraltar since March 18, 2024, after its arrival from Las Palmas, to serve as a floatel. The vessel is intended to provide accommodation for workers, the demand for which has been recently growing in sectors such as LNG, mining, and renewable energy. Following the acquisition, the ship was set to soon be renamed “Diamond XI." The ship is also to be refurbished and then will have be equipped with 350 beds in 150 cabins, catering, and entertainment. The ship will have a 200-seat auditorium, fitness facilities, offices, and around 45 workstations with the capacity to be customized for specific client assignments. The vessel will be open to charter anywhere in the world within the period of a few months. The company also has bought the ro-pax ferry “Isabelle' from the ferry operator Tallink in July 2023, which has now been renamed “Isabelle X” and is currently stationed in British Columbia, providing accommodation services for Woodfibre.
Medevac in Solent
Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched to assist a crew member on board the ‘Ocean Diamond’ in the night of June 11, 2020. The Tamar-class lifeboat was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard at 10:50 p.m. to medevac a crew member at the St Helens Anchorage just to the north of the lifeboat station. It did not take long for the volunteer crew to reach the vessel and arrange for the transfer of the casualty via the port pilot hatch. The patient was able to walk on, with assistance. Once safely onboard, the male was taken to Portsmouth Camber and transferred to an awaiting ambulance with assistance from Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team. Sea conditions were quite lumpy mid-Solent in the F5 NE breeze. The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ then returned to Bembridge and was recovered by 12:30 a.m. on June 12.
Cruise ship scratched in Reykjavik
The "Ocean Diamond" was rocked by heavy winds rocked on its way into Reykjavík’s old harbour on May 29, 2018. Though the ship was safely in port at 10 a.m. and no injuries are reported, it sustained a scratch on its side during the difficult docking manoever as the strong wind caused the ship to scrape against the northern edge of the harbour’s entrance.
