Fire in cargo hold
The Kent Fire Service was alerted on Oct 15, 2021, at 7.30 a.m. after fire broke out in a cargo hold of the 'Odette', which was docked at Ratsbay in Sheerness. At its height, five fire engines, the technical rescue unit and KFRS’ inflatable boat were sent to the scene. At about 10 a.m., the forces could be reduced to three fire engines. FIre fighters were using main jets to extinguish the fire and dampen down any remaining hotspots. Also Sheerness dock tugs attended and CRT were on scene. The fire was extinguished by 1.10 p.m., and the discharge of the cargo of 4243, 78 tonnes of gypsum in 2.698 palettes commenced. The ship had arrived at Sheerness on Oct 14 en route from Bremen.
