Refloating attempts underway

Tue Nov 28 12:08:03 CET 2023 Timsen

Efforts to refloat the 'Barbro G' off downtown Detroit started on Nov 28 at 8 a.m. Tugs had been on the Detroit River most of Monday, trying to free the ship, which ran aground in the river near downtown Detroit shortly after 7:30 a.m. The freighter had been at the Belle Isle Anchorage when the crew noticed a malfunctioning thruster, which resulted in the ship getting stuck. The vessel was on a stopover in Detroit while delivering a shipment of wheat from Thunder Bay to Italy. The crew has been in contact with U.S. and Canadian authorities to plan a safe refloating. The Coast Guard approved a refloating plan in the evening of Nov 27. Report with photo: https://windsornewstoday.ca/windsor/news/2023/11/28/crews-work-to-free-stuck-freighter-in-detroit-river
