Abducted crew released
The five South Korean crew members, who were abducted from the 'Panofi Frontier' by an unidentified group, have been released on July 24, around a month after being taken hostage 111 kilometres south of the port of Cotonou on June 24. They were in good health and currently in a safe location prepared by its embassy in Nigeria. The South Korean crew members will be transported to Ghana if they desire, as soon as a flight becomes available. The other abductee, a Ghanaian national, was also safely moved to the Ghanaian Embassy in the country.
Attacked fishing vessel in Tema
The 'Panofi Frontier' which was attacked by unidentified gunmen, approximately 60 nautical miles south of Cotonou, Benin on Jun 24, arrived at Tema on June 26 at 10.55 a.m. The whereabouts of the kidnappers were unknown.
Crew members of purse seiner kidnapped
The 'Panofi Frontier' was attacked 60 miles south of Cotonou in the Gulf of Guinea on June 24, 2020, at 2.30 p.m. The purse seinerwas boarded by armed pirates, and six of the 30 crew members, among them five Koreans and one Ghanaian, were kidnapped. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The speedboat of the attackers was last seen heading East towards Nigerian waters.
