RIGER 9373553

Mon Mar 21 10:17:49 CET 2011 Timsen

The "Paula C" made its way to Saltmead off the entrance to Beaulieu River where it is currently lying at anchor. Surveyors from the company will inspect the ship before giving it the all clear to proceed to Southampton where it will be further inspected for damage in dry dock. The "Paula C" has been freed from its grounding point at The Needles with assistance from the tug "Wyeforce" on MAr 20 around 9.30 p.m. and is now on route to towards her destination, Cowes, under her own power. It was originally thought that due to low tides, the vessel would not be freed until midnight. Thankfully both ship and the crew of nine are already en-route and have meanwhile passed Totland Bay.

Grounded north of The Needles on the Isle of Wight just before 1pm March 20 2011 but is not in danger. The ship, which was not carrying cargo, is understood to have been sailing to Cowes when it ran into trouble, said a Solent Coastguard spokesman. Needles Coastguard rescue team was keeping watch over the 90-metre long ship and the Yarmouth RNLI lifeboat was standing off the vessel. Ballast water was being pumped off the stranded ship to make it lighter as its crew hope that high tide tonight will help refloat it.
