Allision on the Waal

Tue Nov 04 10:09:12 CET 2014 Timsen

In the evening of Nov 3, 2014, the empty tank barge "Piz Everest" was hit by the "Avalon Impression" just after 10 p.m. on the Waal at Nijmegen. The river cruise ship was coming from Gorinchem and had no passengers on board at that time. After the allision with the tanker which had moored at the quay, coming from Ludwigshafen short before, it ran into a fairway buoy which got entangled in the propeller. Both ships suffered damage. Shipping on the Waal was not compromised. The police and Rijkswaterstaat launched an investigation. The "Avalon Impression" continued from Nijmegen on Nov 4 around 10 a.m. The "Piz Everest" which had suffered some damage at the stern continued to Antwerp on Nov 4 at 3 a.m. Dutch report with photos and video: http://www.omroepgelderland.nl/web/nieuws-1/2074073/botsing-tussen-passagiersschip-en-tanker-op-waal-bij-nijmegen.htm#.VFiVmMmLWxV
