Another technical failure during trials off Tuzla
Repairs of the 'Ozsoy' which had suffered an engine failure in Mangalia on June 24 and was taken to Tuzla on July 23, for repairs of the main engine main block along with the crank shaft have been completed. Subsequently, the vessel was shifted from the shipyard to the anchorage of Tuzla in order to carry out sea trials on Nov 12. However, during these, the ship suffered another technical failure of the main engine and returned to the shipyard. Further repairs have been started by technical teams. The entire repairs were expected to be completed by the end of November now.
Engine repairs in Istanbul
The 'Ozsoy' which had suffered an engine failure off Mangalia in position 43 55 15N, 029 29 55E, on June 24, 2020, dropped anchor at Istanbul anchorage on July 3. Initial damage surveys were carried out by surveyor panels from the classification society, H&M and engine manufacturer experts. As a result of further inspection, the main engine crank unit was found damaged and needed to be repaired at the shipyard. Subsequently, the vessel proceeded to the discharge port Bandirmato be unloaded and arrived in the afternoon. The repair works schedule will be decided, once the completion of cargo discharge has been done. After the vessel has completed cargo discharge operation at Bandirma, it was towed to Tuzla anchorage by a tug. It entered the Tuzla shipyard on July 23, upon completion of arrival formalities. A detailed damage survey was being carried out by class surveyors and main engine manufacturer's engineers. The main engine crank unit and pertinent connection was dismantled in order to carry out permanent repairs. A thickness measurement was carried out by the authorized engineers at the damaged location. Sea trial and performance test will be carried out upon the completion of the entire repair period.
Collision in the Bosphorus
The "Sider Capri" was in collision with the vehicles carrier "Grande Anversa" in the south entrance of the Canakkale Strait on Nov 27, 2016, at 7.04 p.m. The cargo ship suffered severe bow damage, the hull of the vehicles carrier was breached above the waterline at starboard side, its crew of 25 was safe as well as the 11 on board of the "Sider Capri". The Vessel Traffic Service sent the tug "Kurtarma 4" and the lifeboat "Kıyı Emniyeti 9" to the scene. The "Grande Anversa" was enroute from Constanta, where she had sailed on Nov 24, to Izmit, Valencia. The "Sider Capri" was also coming from Constanta, having sailed on Nov 25, and destined for Larnaca. The tug towed both ships to Karanlık Liman Mevkii'ne and dropped anchor off Erenkoy.
