Engine failure in Canakkale Strait
The 'Himalaya', enroute from Tuzla to Larnaca, suffered an engine failure, loss of power and went adrifting at Eceabat point in the Canakkale Strait on Nov 24, 2020, at 11 p.m. The tug 'Kurtarma-6' and a fast rescue boat along with a technical team assisted. Subsequently, the vessel was secured by the tug, and the ship was towed to Karanlik liman anchorage. During the towage operation, a temporarily restricted zone for all types of marine traffic was established in the area. An incident investigation file has been placed by both Harbour Master and Strait authority. The vessel has been imposed a fine due a to breach of the safe passage regulation. The ship remained moored in pos. 40° 0.81' N 026° 16.29' E as of Nov 26. Technical failure in Istanbul Strait
The 'Himalaya', while en route from Burgas to Beirut, suffered a technical failure during the transit of the Istanbul Strait and moored at Büyükdere anchorage on Nov 21 at noon. The crew commenced repairs, before the ship anchored off Tuzla in pos. 40° 52.76' N 029° 11.26' E on Nov 22 at 3 p.m.
Disabled freighter towed to Tuzla
The 'FG Didim' suffered an engine failure at Izmir on Sep 30, 2020. As repairs could not be carried out by its crew, the Turkish tug 'RM 1002' ( MMSI: 271001173) was tasked to tow the disabled vessel to a Tuzla shipyard. Towing commenced on Oct 2. During the Canakkale Strait passage, a coastal safety tug provided escort service. The ETA at Tuzla was Oct 6. After the arrival a damage survey commenced.
