Tanker rescued distressed fishermen

The MRCC Colombo coordinated the rescue of three fishermen on July 11, 2022, after their fishing trawler was caught in high seas southeast of Sri Lanka, about 174 nautical miles from the Great Basses Reef Lighthouse. The local fishing trawler (Reg No. IMUL – A-0301 MTR) had left the Valaichchenai Fisheries Harbour on July 2. Following the distress call, the MRCC Colombo located the position southeast of Sri Lanka and directed the 'Shogun', which was sailing nearby enroute from Lahad Datu to Galle, to assist the distressed fisermen. In the evening it reached the distressed fishing vessel that was adrift hazardously in rough sea conditions. Necessary arrangements to bring the fishermen to the Galle harbour were being made by the MRCC Colombo.
