Sat Nov 26 12:14:42 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Semela" with its crew of the Bulgarian and Ukrainian nationality was detained by Italian authorities in Civitavecchia after an accident with the vessel’s stability during cargo operations. The ship had arrived at Civitavecchia on Nov 21, 2016, coming from Ashdod. The stability issues had to be rectified. The vessel was inspected by the Coastguard which detected 18 deficiencies so that it was not deemed seaworthy for the time being. The most serious shortcomings mainly concerned the preparation of the crew for emergency sitiuations. They revealed a lack of familiarity and confidence with the issue. Also they had to suspend the activities of loading the cargo until there was evidence of having complied with the various shortcomings. In the coming days further inspection on board the ship were to be carried out in order to check the development of the procedures proved deficient in the course of th previous controls.
