Ferry crew rescued distressed boaters

Tue Aug 30 09:55:27 CEST 2022 Timsen

On Aug 29, 2022, at 11.53 a.m. the 'Skjoldnæs', serving between Faaborg and Soby, rescued two people after their small boat sank off Faaborg. The castaways were doing well under the circumstances.

Next mishap of Ærø ferry

Sat Aug 10 19:06:33 CEST 2019 Timsen

All departures of the "Skjoldnæs" were canceled on Aug 9 and 10 due to technical problems. The work to repair a leaky hydraulic pump which broke upon the arrival at Søby in the evening and disabled one bow thruster in the night of Aug 8 were evidently so extensive that the Ærø ferries have had to cancel all trips on the following days. It was not yet known if the ferry would be operating again between Søby, Faaborg and Fynshav on Aug 11. The damaged hydraulic pump has now been sent for repair in Esbjerg. The "Skjoldnæs" has been hit by several snags during the summer. In mid-July, the ferry was sidelined because water had entered the tank, and just a week later, she had to downgrade the number of passengers because one of the liferafts had been hit by a gallows and had to be sent for repair.

Another mishap for ferry

Wed Jul 24 13:35:42 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Skjoldnæs" was sailing with fewer passengers since July 21 after one life raft broke and had to be sent for repair in Esbjerg. The missing raft means that the ferry was only allowed to carry 101 passengers instead of 150 to 101 on the route between Søby, Faaborg and Fynshav. The ship had hit a gallow in the port of Faaborg, which tore a hole in one of the liferafts. Already on July 14 the ship had suffered a mishap when a poor welding caused sea water ingress in the tank, which meant that the ferry lost its maneuverability. The accident resulted in a minor collision with a supply ship in the Port of Faaborg, and the Skjoldnæs had to sail to a shipyard in Søby for repairs which lasted until July 16.
