Dock workers continued strike as Alva Rickmers still has no ITF agreement

Wed Sep 25 10:16:06 CEST 2013 Timsen

The "Alva Rickmers" was hit by another strike on Sep 24 afternoon and remained in Gothenburg on Sep 25. The dockers from the Svensk Transportarbejderforbund had stopped work at 3 p.m. again sbecause the ship still had no ITF agreement. The work would not resume until there was a signed ITF agreements with ship sailing under flags of convenience. Only after the Dockers have received a commitment from Maersk Line that it had charged the owner - Rickmers - to bring the agreement to correct the situation, the work would be resumed.

Alva Maersk stopped in Gothenburg lacking the ITF agreement

Tue Sep 24 14:56:38 CEST 2013 Timsen

The "Alva Rickmers" which was replacing the "Majestic Maersk" as long as it berthed in Copenhagen, was stopped by dockworkers in Gothenburg on Sep 23, 2013 because it does not have an ITF agreement. Already on Sep 22 dockers went on board the ship in Aarhus to ask for an ITF agreement. But the ship which is registered in the Marshall Island, had no agreement. The International Transport Workers' Federation ITF then gave a Notice of Warning to the ship owner, and dockers in Aarhus contacted their colleagues in Gothenburg. Only after the dockers had received a guarantee from Maersk Line that the "Alva Rickmers" immediately would enter into an ITF agreement, dockers resumed dockers their work.
