Swordfish surveyed wrecks of Maersk vessels

Thu Jul 06 10:48:58 CEST 2017 Timsen

The Maersk Supply Service has chartered the "MPSV Swordfish" to comply with the formal notice of the Maritime Prefecture of the Atlantic to take additional measures to analyze and investigate the contents of certain tanks and to monitor the wrecks of the "Maersk Searcher" and "Maersk Shipper" off the coast of the Île de Sein for the next three years. The vessel was deployed in the area from June 15 to 25, 2017, and from June 30 to July 5 with observers from the Maritime Prefecture. The investigations into the condition of the wrecks showed no significant change since the first assessment mission at the end of January, in particular no hydrocarbon leak was noted. The nine tanks distributed between the double hulls were inspected and contained residues were pumped off. These were mainly light residues, with a total volume of less than 10 m3. The Maritime Maritime Prefecture was now studying the Shipowner's proposals for assessing the condition of the surrounding submarine environment around the two wrecks. It will continue the regular monitoring of the area with state means.
