Old lifeboat disabled during salvage operation
During the refloating attempt of the Dutch trawler "Linquenda - ZK 80", 88 gt (IMO: 8432584), which had aground in the Westgat near Schiermonnikoog in the evening of Feb 28, the "Suzanna" which had managed to establish a towing connection with the vessel, was disabled after it got the towing wire in one of the two propellers and also got a problem with the rudder. The towing line was cut and the salvage operation had to be canceled. At 10.30 p.m. the "Suzanna" was able to return to the port of Lauwersoog with own power. It was hoisted out of the water, and the propeller was cleared. The lifeboats "Frans Hogewind" from Terschelling and the "Jan & Titia Visser" from Eemshaven then headed towards the stranded cutter. Both lifeboats were on scene at 11.45 p.m. The three fishermen were taken off board at 12.15 p.m. by the “Frans Hogewind” Due to a lot of ice and low water levels it was unclear weather the ship could be refloated on March 1. The KNRM has just put a number of newer lifeboats out of service, because the ice on the Wadden Sea made it impossible to operate them. In case of emergency, the KNRM can call on lifeboats from the old fleet, including the "Suzanna".
