Catamaran in trouble in South Pacific

Fri Nov 22 11:29:11 CET 2019 Timsen

On Nov 21, 2019 the US flagged research vessel 'Kilo Moana' was sent to assist the crew of four of the 'Thetis' which had sailed from Marsden Point on Nov 5 and got in trouble 93ß0 km south of Raivavae. The hydrographic rsearch vessel was located 200 miles south of the catamaran, was sent to assist the boat which had water ingress in one of its hulls. At 4 a.m., the skipper of the catamaran indicated that he was trying to patch the gap in rough seas with a swell of two meters. The crew was preparing to evacuate the ship on a life raft. The JRCC Tahiti notified the "Kilo Moana" which immediately diverted to the sailboat. The JRCC Tahiti was currently monitoring the sailboat by satellite and maintained regular contact with the crew.
