Tanker underway to Setubal

On Oct 19 the "Tokyo Spirit" was being under tow of the tugs "Castelo De Sines“, "Monte Da Luz“ and "Multratug 20“ enrotue to Setubal for surveys and repairs. The "Castelo De Sines“ and "Monte Da Luz“ had also been among the tugs which refloated the tanker along with the "Castelo de Sao Jorge". The ship docked at the Terminal Tanquisado Eco Oil at 10 p.m.

Tanker grounded near Lisbon

The "Tokyo Spirit" grounded in stormy weather in wind gusts of 50 knots near Lisbon, Portugal just outside the breakwater at the Cascais marina in pos. 38º 66' N, 9º 41'W on Oct 17, 2015. The ship had arrived at Cascais Bay for orders on Oct 14 and dragged her anchor in the morning. At noon she sent a distress call. A first attempt to free her at the high tide at 6.30 p.m. with the "Svitzer Funchal" and "Montevil" " Svitzer Leixoes" and "Svitzer Sines" failed. Only with the next high Tide on Oct 18 at 5.30 a.m. the additional tugs "Castelo de Sao Jorge", "Castelo de Sines" and "Monte da Luz" were able to pull the tanker off. The vessel was unladen.
