Bellaland in difficulties off France

Sun Apr 14 11:44:51 CEST 2019 Timsen

On April 13, 2019, at 2:10 p.m. the CROSS Gris-Nez was informed of an electrical problem aboard the "Bellaland" enroute from Bilbao to Oxelösund. At 2.40 p.m. the tug "Abeille Languedoc" was deployed to escort the ship for an hour. The vessel had trouble in making headway. The CROSS Gris Nez asked the vessel to anchor in the Dick area off Dunkirk/Calais. at 6.10 p.m. following a consulation with the maritime prefecture in Cherbourg, a Dauphin helicopter based in Le Touquet was engaged with an evaluation and intervention team on board, consisting of an inspector from the Dunkirk Security Center, a pilot from the Dunkirk pilot station and the second captain of the "Abeille Languedoc". At 7.25 p.m. the team was dropped off on the ship. At 8.30 p.m. the "Bellaland" moored on Calais Anchorage in pos. 51° 3.71' N 001° 47.60' E with the "Abeille Languedoc" remaining on standby. It was found out that there was a power supply problem on the injection pump preventing the vessel from exceeding two knots. The ship was now waiting for spare parts expected to arrive on April 15.
