Familiy agreed to incineration of captain
While Guangzhou Municipal Government has not yet approved disembarkation of the Captain of the 'Vantage Wave', the family of the decesased has agreed to the incineration of his body in an attempt to address the matter, despite this being against their religious traditions and personal wishes. Over the last month, the crew and the vessel have been facing a serious shortage of food and water, which has imposed additional risks to the safety of the vessel and the general health of the crew, the UK charity Human Rights at Sea said. Despite requests for food and water resupply being submitted, these continued to be rejected. The shipowner and crew fully understoodd Covid-19 pandemic prevention issues, but have said the situation was adding significant psychological pressure. The Human Rights at Sea has called for urgent action by the Chinese port authority.
Ship stranded with body of dead master on board
On April 19, 2021, the master of the 'Vantage Wave' died on board of his ship, and the body of the deceased has remaine since. The death occurred while the ship was en route from Paradip to Guangzhou with a cargo of aluminium ingots. He reportedly died with symptoms of a cardiac attack. The disembarkation of the body was rejected by nearly all regional countries: Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan and China. The ship arrived at the outer anchorage of Hong Kong on June 6 and moored in pos. 21° 58.44' N 114° 1.03' E and remained stationary since. The Chinese authorities were not allowing to supply the ship with water and food.
Three attempted robberies off Singapore
Three attempted robberies off Singapore have failed within five days. The 'Elvia' was boarded by 10 people while underway in the eastbound lane of the traffic separation scheme in the Singapore Strait on Jan 28, 2021. The raiders had bladed weapons, according to security consultancy Ambrey. The Singapore Navy is reported to have acted swiftly, prompting the perpetrators to depart. A search of the vessel was conducted and no items were reported missing. The bulker had last called in Singapore and was en route to Lianyungang . On Jan 29, the 'Vantage Wave' was boarded by three robbers while underway in the eastbound lane. A search of the vessel was later conducted and no items were reported missing. The ship had also called in Singapore and was heading for Caofeidian. The attempts on the 'Elvia' and 'Vantage Wave' followed an attempt on the 'Ark Royal' on Jan 25 in the same vicinity. The vessels master reported the sighting of five unauthorised persons in the engine room, but after the alarm was raised and the vessel searched there were no further sightings of the perpetrators and nothing appeared to have been taken.
