Moored vessel dragged anchor

Sun Nov 01 21:27:29 CET 2020 Timsen

Orkney’s two new tugs 'Odin of Scapa' and 'Thor of Scapa' have provided a rapid response after the 'Vega Scorpio' which was moored in Scapa Flow since June 28, 2020, began to drag her anchor in severe winds in the afternoon of Oct 31. The Orkney Marine Services were advised at 12.45 p.m. that the ship was dragging her moorings as the wind gusted to 60 knots. The tugs were already on standby because of the weather conditions anc could be deployed within 15 minutes. By 1.45 p.m. they had towing wires on board and were holding the 'Vega Scorpio' in position 58° 52.48' N 002° 57.50' W. A Marine Services pilot also went on board the ship, with further assistance provided by local company Orcades Marine. On Nov 1 the 'Thor of Scapa' was still on standby.
