Injection pump caused fire

Mon May 20 13:42:49 CEST 2019 Timsen

The fire aboard the "Volcan de Teno" was caused by the injection pump, which was being replaced by a new one in Algeciras, as well as other repairs that were being made due to the damage caused by the fire. The ferry resumed the service to Ceuta on May 21 at 2.50 p.m, where it arrived back for the first time at 3.30 p.m.

Ferry sidelined after fire

Fri May 17 12:21:19 CEST 2019 Timsen

Ferry operator Transmediterránea has been forced to suspend the scheduled departure of the 'Volcán del Teno' from Algeciras to Ceuta on May 17, 2019, at 9.30 a.m. because in the night of May 16 a fire broke out in the starboard engine upon its entry into the port of Algeciras, coming from Ceuta. There were 24 passengers on board. Due to the rapid action of the crew and the activation of fire-fighting devices further damage could be prevented. The ferry docked in Algeciras since then, pending a technical inspection, which was expected to take place in the morning. At the moment, the shipping company has not informed if this vessel will be replaced by another one while the damage is repaired or if it is not of such magnitude and after a repair could be resumed the rotations throughout the day. What is certain is that the rotation of 9.30 am from Ceuta has been canceled and for the moment it is not confirmed that the next one, which has to be produced at 1 pm, can be made.

Ferry sidelined due to engine trouble

Sat Feb 03 22:12:31 CET 2018 Timsen

The "Volcan de Téno" suffered engine trouble during a trip between Gran Canaria and Tenerife and was sidelined since Jan 19, 2018, in the León and Castillo Poniente dock of the Puerto de La Luz in Las Palmas. In addition to the repairs, the ship was undergoing a series of preventive tests to check the response of the engine that had failed. There was no precise date for the return of the ship to its schedule. The catamaran usually makes two daily trips between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, taking about 90 minutes. Naviera Armas kept the service maintained with their traditional ferries. On March 28 the ferry returned to the service.
