Supply ship attacked off Hodeidah

Tue Jun 05 09:19:39 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "VOS Theia" which was carrying UN aid came under attack on June 3, 2018, at 5.30 p.m. while at anchor about 60 kilometers off the coast of Yemen, opposite the port of Hodeidah. The supply vessel was attacked by what was suspected to be elements of the Houthi movement who are in occupation of that part of Yemen. The attack came from a skiff which opened fire, presumably using RPGs. They then attempted to board but were unsuccessful. Earlier the "VOS Theia" had sailed from Hodeidah after delivering a cargo of UN aid products and was at anchor not far from the island of Zubair awaiting permission to depart from the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Iranian-supported Houthi forces. A small fire started in the engine room but was safely extinguished, and the ship was apparently able to sail on her own account. There are no reports of any injuries.

Supplier rescued 110 migrants

Fri Aug 09 13:37:55 CEST 2013 Timsen

The "VOS Theia" was involved in a dramatic rescue of over one hundred refugees from a sinking boat off the coast of Libya. The ship was under way to Tripoli, Libya, when they received a telephone call from the Italian Coastguard in the evening of the July 26, 2013, and was requested to assist a rubber boat in distress. When the vessel approached the boat, the crew noticed that the boat was damaged and sinking. All 110 persons on board were rescued and transferred to the main deck. The refugees advised the Captain that they were of Algerian nationality. The Italian Coastguard, in cooperation with the Libyan maritime authorities, advised the ship to proceed to Tripoli. After a series of negotiations, the refugees were successfully disembarked at the port on July 27 and arrangements were made to repatriate them to their country of origin.
