Salvors work on capsized wreck

More than one mongth after the collision of the 'Xing Qi Sheng 69' and the 'Oceana' near Shanghai in which three crew members lost their lives, five more seafarers were still missing. The wreck was located bottom up south of the North Channel with salvage teams working at the hull. The 'Oceana' was spotted anchored north of the pilot station.

Three people died and five were missing in the night of Dec 13, 2020, after the container ship 'Oceana' with 19 crew members on board was in collision with the 'Xin Qi Sheng 69' in the Yangtse Estuary, which subsequently capsized and sank with 650 containers on board off Shanghai. The 'Oceana' was hit by electrical issues resulting in steering problems and slammed into the Chinese ship, where all 16 crew members had to jump into the water immediately. Only eight of them were rescued alive. The SAR operation by the Donghai Rescue Bureau, which dispatched 20 rescue vessels to the scenen, was still in progress on Dec 14. The 'Oceana' suffered substantial damage as a result of the impact with a full assessment taking place later. After the accident she anchored off Shanghai.
