Oil removal completed

Sun Apr 03 18:27:21 CEST 2016 Timsen

The operation to remove fuel and oil from the "Yunhai" off the Penghu Islands was completed on Apr 3. Thanks to stable weather since the beginning of April, marine engineering experts and divers managed to pump 28 tons of lubricant from submerged engines and machinery over the past three days. Including 110 tons of diesel removed from the ship from Mar 17-19, a total of 138 tons of fuel and oil were pumped out. The completion of the oil removal meant the end of a possible oil slick crisis that had put the relevant authorities and environmentalists on high alert. The next step will be to remove the ship itself. The vessel's owner will present his salvage plan to the Maritime and Port Bureau (MPB) under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in the next few days. It is possible that the ship will be dismantled at the site where it was stranded, or it could be towed to Fuzhou for repairs.

Combi ship grounded in stormy weather

Thu Feb 25 09:56:11 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Yun Hai" ran aground on Feb 25, 2016, at 1.10 a.m. LT about 4,6 miles southeast of Penghu island in the Taiwan Strait in stormy weather. The 11 Indonesian crew members were rescued by a Taiwanese Coastugard helicopter dispatched by the Ministry of Defence from the Chiayi Airport. An EC 225 aircraft arrived at 1.30 a.m. on site. At 2:10 a.m. all were hoisted and taken to Magong island, no injuries reported. The unloaded vessel with 145 tons of fuel on board was on route from Fuzhou to Indonesia, most probably recently having been sold by the Chinese owner to Indonesia.
