Container removal resumed
Salvors have resumed lifting containers from the "Rena" on Nov 19 following delays due to high winds exceeding 24 knots. As of 2 p.m. the team had removed a total of 36 containers stacked on board the ship. Skimming work on remaining dredges of oil in the number 5 starboard tank was continuing. The container removal job was reportedly exhausting for Svitzer's 35 salvors, and some of the containers housed rotting food emitting a foul smell.

More cargo to be lightered
1000 tons rice more will have to be removed from the cargo holds of the " Angel 1", and towing should resume next weekend. Since November 6, the tugs "Mahanuwara" and "Coral Sea Fos" had started salvage attempts, but the cargo vessel only rotated on the spot. According to calculations by the Greek salvors, the ship must be more relieved. From the 32,000 tons of rice aboard the freighter, 9600 tons have already been removed besides the 400 tons of fuel. On November 17, the "River Bee River" has been called again and removed 294 tonnes of rice. As soon as 1 000 tons are removed, the "Angel 1" will be pulled 6 nautical miles away from the East Coast for preliminary repairs to the hull. If things go wrong, the ship will sink by 4000 meters.

Hovercraft sailings halted due to safety concerns
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has suspended Hovertravels ISM Document of Compliance which allows them to operate. The effect of this is that their hovercrafts "Freedom 90" and "Island Express" cannot operate. The action was taken because of safety concerns following an investigation into a propeller failure that occurred on a third craft which highlighted inconsistencies in their safety management systems, particularly with vessel maintenance. Maritime and Coastguard Agency South East were working closely with Hovertravel and the propeller manufacturers to investigate the circumstances around the propeller failure. Hovertravels management team has responded positively to the concerns and MCA would be working with them over the weekend to resolve the issues so these hovercraft can return to service as soon as possible. By Nov 18, 2011, the "Freedom 90" was at Portsmouth.
