2. Novatek

Fleet Size: 25 vessels  |  4 Laden  |  12 Ballast  |  8 Unknown (newbuilds)

Laden Percentage: 16.7% (of known-status vessels)

Load Terminals: Murmansk STS (Arctic transshipment), ALNG2

Total Cargo En Route: ~648,249 m³

Novatek's active fleet operates primarily from the Murmansk STS (ship-to-ship transfer station), which serves as the Arctic transshipment hub for Arctic LNG 2 and Yamal-sourced cargoes. Supply routes include China (PipeChina Beihai) and India (Dahej). Eight Zvezda-series vessels are listed as UNKNOWN status — these are newbuilds under construction at Zvezda Shipyard in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, awaiting delivery.

3. Gazprom

Fleet Size: 5 vessels  |  1 Laden  |  4 Ballast

Laden Percentage: 20.0%

Load Terminals: Kamchatka STS, Portovaya LNG

Total Cargo En Route: 5,262 m³ (minimal — small icebreaker cargo)

Gazprom's LNG fleet is largely inactive at present. Only one vessel (Dmitry Mendeleev) is currently laden, carrying a small cargo of 5,262 m³ — consistent with a small or ice-class vessel rather than a standard LNG carrier. The fleet has recently supplied China (PipeChina Diefu) and the domestic Russian market (Kaliningrad). The Portovyy has a stale AIS signal of 79 days, suggesting it may be laid up or out of service.

Key supply flows: Kamchatka STS → Russian Far East (Vladivostok area); Portovaya / PipeChina Diefu → China; Kaliningrad → Domestic Russia

Note: Gazprom's fleet shows very low activity — 4 of 5 vessels are in ballast and the one laden vessel carries a minimal cargo volume. The Portovyy has not been seen for 79 days.

4. Sakhalin Energy (SEIC)

Fleet Size: 8 vessels  |  4 Laden  |  4 Ballast

Laden Percentage: 50.0%

Load Terminal: Prigorodnoye LNG Plant, Sakhalin 2, Russia

Total Cargo En Route: ~563,770 m³

Sakhalin Energy (SEIC) operates the highest laden percentage of all four companies at 50%. All supply originates from the Prigorodnoye LNG Plant on Sakhalin Island (Sakhalin 2 project). The primary markets are China (Rudong and Yangshan terminals) and Japan (Chita), reflecting Sakhalin's traditional Asian LNG buyer base under long-term contracts. One vessel (Kunpeng) is currently heading to India (Dahej).

5. Cross-Company Observations

  • Yamal dominates European supply: With 10 laden vessels all sourced from Sabetta and destined for Belgium, France, Spain, and the Netherlands, Yamal is the most active European supplier among the four companies.
  • Sakhalin focuses on Asian markets: Sakhalin's fleet is tightly oriented toward China and Japan, consistent with long-term sale and purchase agreements typical of the Sakhalin 2 project.
  • Novatek's Arctic transshipment model: Novatek routes cargoes via Murmansk STS for ice-free onward delivery. Recent discharges in China (PipeChina Beihai) confirm active Asian supply alongside likely European routing.
  • Gazprom fleet is mostly idle: Only 1 of 5 vessels is laden with a minimal cargo, suggesting significantly reduced operational activity. The stale signal from Portovyy raises questions about fleet utilisation.
  • India emerging as a destination: Both Novatek (via Kunpeng) and Sakhalin are currently supplying Dahej, India, suggesting a growing role for Indian LNG imports from Russian producers.
  • Novatek newbuild pipeline: Eight Zvezda-series vessels remain in unknown/construction status, indicating a significant fleet expansion is expected once these vessels are delivered from the Zvezda Shipyard.
