The UK government has expanded its Russian sanctions, designating seven vessels linked to the transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russian projects. Effective 15 October 2025 seven LNG vessels and 45 crude tankers were added to the UK's list under the Russia Sanctions Regulations (2019), marking a significant escalation in efforts to curb Moscow’s energy revenues.
The targeted LNG vessels include Buran, Zarya, Voskhod, Christophe De Margerie, Clean Ocean, Clean Vision, and Clean Planet. These ships have been central to Russia’s LNG movements, particularly from the Yamal LNG project previously spared from sanctions.
The UK’s latest measures continue to tighten the screws on Russia’s LNG trade, targeting vessels critical to Arctic flows and mirroring a wider push to reduce Russian energy revenues underpinning the conflict in Ukraine.
