At Chennai Port Authority, structural integrity and operational safety remain top priorities. Following a comprehensive Technical Audit of Berth No. 24B (BD-II) conducted by the National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC), the Competent Authority has approved a new set of operational guidelines—effective immediately.
Key Operational Parameters:
- Vessel Size Limit: Only vessels up to 30,000 DWT are permitted, with a maximum displacement of 37,500 DT and length not exceeding 170 meters.
- Structural Load: The live load on the berth is strictly limited to 15 kN/m².
- Berthing Velocity: Vessels must not exceed a berthing speed of 0.15 m/s.
- Weather Threshold: Berthing operations are allowed only when wind speeds are below 50 m/s.
For ongoing monitoring and operational planning, tools like VesselTracker remain essential—providing real-time visibility into vessel movements, weather conditions, and compliance metrics.
