Safety fines paid for defiencies found during inspection

Fri Nov 03 10:35:48 CET 2017 Timsen

On Nov 2, 2017, the "Astri - S264" was subject of an inspection at Port Mukran by officers of the water police in Sassnitz. Several irregularities led to corresponding misdemeanors and guarantees had to be paid by those responsible. It has been established that a report required for entering port has not been submitted and, moreover, a non-compliant waste journal has been used. After assessing the facts, the master paid a security of 228 Euro and 528 Euro respectively. During the inspection of the engine an unauthorized connection from the sludge tank to the sea was found. There were also irregularities in pumping operations and in the management of the oil log. Due to the breach of the provisions of the International Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment (MARPOL 73/78, Appendix I), a total of approximately 2600 Euro has been paid from the responsible chief engineer. The vessel had entered port at 9.30 a.m. and was still berthed on Nov 3.
