Engine failure in Istanbul Strait

The "Blue Moon", en route from Nika Tera to Tripoli, suffered engine failure at Sarayburnu point in the Istanbul Strait, on July 11, 2018, at 5 p.m. Subsequently, the vessel drifted dangerously to shore. A Coastal Safety tug and a technical team immediately attended to provide assistance to the vessel and also to ensure Strait traffic safety. The ship has been secured and towed from incident location to an anchorage area. The vessel departure permission has been cancelled by the Strait authority, until completion of permanent repairs. A fine has been imposed on vessel due to the breach of the safe strait passage regulation.
