Freighter broke down off Beykoz
The 'New Leo', enroute from Novorossyisk to Tekirdag, broke down and went adrift in the Bosphorus on Oct 3, 2020. The ship had entered the strait vom the Black Sea and was disabled off Paşabahçe. The captain immediately dropped anchor i n front of Beykoz. The tug 'Kurtarma 11' and the lifeboat 'Kıyı Emniyeti 9' were called to assist the ship which was taken in tow and anchored off Ahırkapı. Repairs in Ampelakia
The 'New Leo' which had suffered cargo shift following an engine failure between Skyros and Lesvos on Dec 4, and was towed to Psara Island anchorage on Dec 6, has been pulled to a Perama shipyard in Ampelakia on Dec 13 at 10.30 a.m.. A damage survey was carried out by the Bureau Veritas classification society surveyors. Subsequently, the class status was suspended until the completion of permanent repairs. The ship finally sailed after repairs on Feb 11 at noon. It was next headed to Gemlik and Tuzla and sailed on Feb 26 towards Kherson with an ETA ss of Feb 28.
Cargo ship righted off Psara
On Dec 11 the 'New Leo' remained moored at the west coast of Chios in vicinity 38° 32.06' N 025° 34.43' E in a bight near Psara. The ship was assisted by the tug 'Karapiperis 18' (IMO: 8810205), the supply ship 'Vernicos Sifnos' ( IMO:9420435) and the crane barge 'Ignatios III' which were busy to stow the shifted steel cargo again and have brought the ship back on even keel.
