Engine leak in Dover Strait

The 'YM Enlightenment', en route from Hamburg to Southampton, UK, suffered a leak in the main engine while transiting the Dover Traffic Separation Scheme in the southwest lane in position 51 27 27N, 001 59 46E, about 20,3 nautical miles from North Foreland on Sep 14, 2021, around 9 p.m. The crew started repairs which were completed at 9.35 p.m. The vessel's further passage throught the TSS was monitored by the British Coastguard. The ship arrived in Southampton on Sep 15 at 12.25 p.m. It sailed again on Sep 16 at 5 a.m., headed to Le Havre.

Container ship hit by pilot boat

The pilot boat "Scotia Pilot" lost propulsion and was in collision with the "YM Enlightenment" in position 044 39 52 N, 063 33 47 W, in Halifax on Jan 16, 2019, at 5 p.m. The pilot boat sustained hull damages above the waterline and to the accommodation. The vessel regained propulsion and returned to its base in Halifax. The container ship berthed in Halifax at noon and sailed the same day at 11.20 p.m., headed to Rotterdam with an ETA as of Jan 24.

Yang Ming Launches New Container Vessel, “YM Enlightenment”

YM Enlightenment, a 4,662 TEU full-container vessel built for Yang Ming by CSBC CORP., TAIWAN, was named at a ceremony held at CSBC Kaohsiung Shipyard on January 5, 2015. YM Enlightenment is the third of five 4,662 TEU full-container vessels built for Yang Ming by CSBC CORP. This type of vessel is eco-friendly. The new ship is 259 meters in length, 37.3 meters in width. It has 400 reefer plugs and a draft of 12.8 meters. The vessel can cruise at a speed up to 22.9 knots. Yang Ming strives not only for environmental protection but also for lowering the average age of its ships. The new generation ships incur lower operational costs and consume energy more efficiently. Yang Ming contributes to environmental protection constantly. With the deployment of this new vessel, we can enhance our comprehensive service and provide better service to customers. YM Enlightenment is to be deployed in the CPX Service (China - Pakistan Express). Her ports of call are in this order: Shanghai – Ningbo–Shekou – Singapore – Karachi – Mundra – Port Kelang – Singapore – Hong Kong – Shanghai
