Pusher tug lost wheelhouse in allision
The "Karibu 0-01" on Apr 18, 2018, at 7.45 p.m. allided with a decommissioned water gate on the Havel-Oder-Camal near Eberswalde in Barnim. The wheelhouse of the tug was completely torn off, the 64 year old master and his 68 year old engineer were slightly injured and treated in a nearby hospital. The tug lost oil from destroyed hydraulic fuel lines. The fire brigade laid out oil barriers and secured the tug with its barges at Nordend. The water gate which had been used to protect the ship lift Niederfinow was severely damaged and the Havel-Oder-Canal was barred for shipping. After investigations by the police and a team of the central ship accident commission as well as the canal authority in Eberswalde traffic was released again on Apr 19. The disabled "Karibu-0-01" remained detained. The 114-m-barge train had been loaded with pig iron and was bound from Szczecin to Berlin.
