Ice flows caused water ingress
In the evening of March 2, 2018, at 11 p.m. a water ingress in the engine room of the "Richard", 1107 ts (EU-No.: 04300620), was remarked by the 71 year old master of the tanker which was enroute from Wolfsburg to Magdeburg. The ship was underway on theDortmund-Ems-Canal near Meppen. Drifting ice had breached the hull of the unloaded ship. The ship berthed in Meppen, and the crew managed to patch the leak so that the water ingress was stopped. The water police launched and investigation, the ship was forbidden to proceed until permanent repairs have been completed.
