Long Stay Red Tanker 'Iver Ability' Departs Dublin Bay for Dutch Port

Sun Jan 29 12:32:15 CET 2017 arnekiel

Iver Ability, the red hulled ship, anchored in Dublin Bay since August, left its six–month mooring yesterday (Jan. 28), bound for the Dutch Port of Delfzijl. The long term anchorage of the ship followed a 'reaction' onboard the Asphalt/Bitumen tanker during her transport of Bitumen into Dublin Port this summer. The ship cut a lonely sight over Christmas 2016, as 'discussions with charterers' for a port of discharge for the vessel’s cargo continued. While at anchorage in Dublin, the ship was fully operational with all seafarers performing normal duties and standard crew changes taking place, according to the ship's managers. http://www.afloat.ie/port-news/port-and-shipping-news/item/34829-long-stay-red-ship-iver-ability-visitor-departs-dublin-bay-for-dutch-port

Delayed ship prepares for a Dublin Bay Christmas

Sun Dec 25 12:39:17 CET 2016 arnekiel

Seafarers are used to spending Christmas at sea, but one ship’s complement in Irish waters will have a more unusual experience than most. Some 13 crew on board the 129-metre tanker Iver Ability will be neither out of sight nor out of mind in Dublin Bay due to “issues” with unloading the ship’s cargo. The red- and white-hulled vessel has already spent more than four months on the anchorage, apart from several brief forays into Dublin Port for supplies. Illuminated at night, it has become a talking point for coastal walkers. Managers of the Gibraltar-registered ship have confirmed that it was transferred on to the anchorage in August after it “experienced a reaction to its cargo of bitumen during cargo operations in the port”. It is understood that a seal on its hatch ruptured while on berth in Dublin Port, and posed a potential safety hazard. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/delayed-ship-prepares-for-a-dublin-bay-christmas-1.2916926
